Research
Business Briefing: Women's Healthcare. The American Society of Breast Disease has joined the advisory board of Touch Briefings' new publication on women's healthcare in North America, which will provide leading hospital and specialist care physicians with comprehensive information on innovations and developments in a broad array of areas focused on women's health.
International Breast Health Care: Guidelines for Screening, Diagnosis and Breast Cancer Treatment for Countries with Limited Resources: Begun in 2002, the Breast Health Global Initiative (BHGI) quickly evolved into a vigorous international collaboration of long-term alliances between foremost organizations and leaders in the field of breast cancer worldwide.
The Cancer Clinical Services - Quality Assurance Project (QAP) is a collaboration between The San Diego State University Graduate School of Public Health and The State of California, Department of Health Services, Cancer Detection Section. The site features Breast Diagnostic Algorithms for Primary Care Physicians and A Women's Guide to Breast Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment, in 6 languages.
Cancer Prevention is a newly created site that has two sections, one for healthcare professionals and one for consumers. The site includes information on various forms of cancer in addition to breast cancer.
PubMed, a service of the National Library of Medicine, provides access to over 11 million MEDLINE citations back to the mid-1960's and additional life science journals. PubMed includes links to many sites providing full text articles and other related resources.
The Bookshelf is a growing collection of biomedical books that can be searched directly by entering a concept and searching. Books are also linked to terms in PubMed abstracts: when viewing an abstract.
The National Alliance of Breast Cancer Organizations closed its doors in May 2004 after nearly 18 years in operation. The ASBD congratulates Amy Langer and the NABCO organization for its contributions to improving information about breast cancer.

Funding Sources
The Komen Foundation runs one of the most innovative, responsive grant programs in breast cancer today, with a focus on research projects with potential for high impact that may not be considered by other agencies. Each year, the Komen Foundation awards project grants and fellowships in basic, clinical and translational research. In addition to research on a national and international level, Komen Affiliates fund non-duplicative, community-based breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment projects for the medically underserved.
The Breast Cancer Research Foundation funds clinical and genetic research into the causes and treatment of breast cancer.

Hurricane Katrina Information
The National Cancer Institute's Cancer Information Service (CIS) has a toll-free number for U.S. residents as an additional contact point for oncologists and cancer patients. Call 1-800-4-CANCER (1-800-422-6237). CIS information specialists answer calls Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. local time, in English or Spanish. Callers with TTY equipment may call 1-800-332-8615.
For patients on NCI-sponsored clinical trials - and doctors who are asked to treat cancer patients who have been on an NCI-sponsored trial - NCI has established a phone number to call, 301-496-5725. This line will be answered from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time. After hours and on weekends, callers can leave a message and an NCI employee will respond within an hour.
